The main purpose of this course is to learn solid, basic conducting technique in order to bring out the best musical artistry possible from oneself and one’s fellow musicians. This technique not only focuses on the physical gesture of conducting, but on other important elements such as score study and rehearsal strategies. Some time will also be spent discussing the history of the conductor and the multi-faceted roles of the conductor within student and professional orchestras in today’s society.
