Course Description: A survey of the Minoan-Mycenaean art and architecture of the Aegean Bronze Age (3,000-1,100 BC), followed by a survey of later Greek art and architecture from the Geometric to the Hellenistic period (1,100-31 BC). Emphasis upon art and architecture as cultural expressions, the influence of neighboring civilizations, and the development of different styles and techniques, as well as the relationship between art and literature. A small component of the course will involve discussion of the ethics of art collecting.  Mostly slide lectures with some discussion.
