ENV 244-0 (Fall 2024) - South Asian Environ Issues

Course Description 

The goal of this course is for students to learn how to analyze South Asian environmental issues from a social science perspective, including the impacts of those issues, the factors that cause the issues, and the consequences of their potential resolutions. Students will integrate a variety of social sciences into their analyses so as to gain a broader perspective of the rich social nature of South Asian environmental issues than a single discipline would offer. South Asian voices will dominate the materials we use in class.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Examine the positive and negative feedback loop that relate the natural, social, and cultural causes of South Asian environmental issues using a variety of social sciences.
  2. Critically analyze the natural, social, and cultural effects of South Asian environmental issues.
  3. Assess possible solutions to South Asian environmental issues within the context of its society, culture, and power systems using a variety of social sciences.
