The objective of this course is to conduct a close study of a “timeless” economics topic and a few “timely” economics
topics. For the timeless topic we will conduct an in-depth discussion of markets and market failures. In addition,
students will choose a few timeless topics for further study. Students will read, analyze, present, discuss, conduct and
participate in deliberation sessions on these timely topics. In addition to the above which is specific to this section, all
Eco 495 courses also involve a common component that includes an oral exam conducted by an external examiner as
well as a standardized economics exam conducted by ETS.
