This course is the first half of a year-long introductory course of the art of Asia, introducing the arts of East Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with China, Japan, Korea, and India as main focal points. Introduction to Asian Art - I covers the temporal scope between the neolithic time and the 10th century. The class follows an approximate chronological order with a weekly theme that addresses art history questions ranging from funerary art and afterlife to gender and transcultural perspectives.
