In this course, you will train your mind, body and imagination to respond truthfully and impulsively moment-to-moment as a character in a realistic performance. You will work collaboratively in a nurturing, supportive environment where risk-taking is applauded and temporary failure is seen as growth. Drawing upon tools and techniques developed by Constantin Stanislavksi, Uta Hagen, and Sanford Meisner, you will explore physical and vocal relaxation, readiness, concentration, script analysis, active listening, playing of actions, emotional and sense memory, rehearsals, ensemble work, and staging. This class requires active attendance, participation in physical and vocal exercises, improvisations, drama activities, outside rehearsals, written analysis work, in-class monologue and scene performances, and openness to coaching and constructive feedback. You will attend two Davidson theatre productions and write response papers.
