Why do organisms look the way they do? How do organisms evolve over time? What limits species evolution and persistence? How do species cope with a dynamic & changing environment? This semester will focus on core concepts in biology, including information, evolution, cells, emergent properties, and homeostasis at larger scales of biology. In the labs, you will experience first-hand the interdisciplinary nature of modern biology and the process of science. You will develop foundational skills in designing and carrying out experiments, how to interpret data, how to use the increasing numbers of tools, resources, and databases biologists use, as well as develop your skills in communicating science in multiple formats. We will also consider some major ethical issues in biology.
